Church Membership

We encourage you to participate in the life of the congregation for a time before deciding to join us as a member of the church.  While all worship services and most activities and events are open to everyone, church members do share some responsibilities.

Membership in the church is through baptism.  (See the baptism page for more information.)  If you are already baptized, then becoming a member of Faith Lutheran Church or Rock Creek Lutheran Church means transferring your church membership from your previous congregation.  If it has been some time since you have been an active member of another congregation, a copy of your baptismal record is sufficient.

The pastor meets with all interested potential church members, to get to know each other, answer questions, and share some information about what it means to be a church member.

Church members are expected to live faithfully, with God’s help.  Active church members are encouraged to:

  • attend worship services regularly

  • read the Bible and pray, either on their own or in a group

  • give generously to the ministries of the church:  money, time, skills

  • seek to continue to grow in faith

  • invite others to participate in the life of the church and our ministries

  • attend the annual congregational meeting, and vote thoughtfully and prayerfully on decisions
